CADdy PointCloudMinimizer - intelligent point cloud thinning

The lossless and intelligent thinning of very dense 3D point clouds is a "must" when using CADdy® Classic, BricsCAD® or similar CAD systems would like to work comfortably. The user receives 3D point clouds from programs for the photogrammetric processing of UAV-recorded images or captures with laser scanners.

Current products have not produced the results that meet the demands for accuracy and performance. Here usually only simple, less intelligent thinning in defined grid intervals are offered.

While one would like to have a high number of points in the range of 3D models, in order to get exact models, the surveying expert needs rather strongly reduced models, which nevertheless describe the terrain exactly, in order to be able to carry out profiles and mass determinations.

We from the CADdy team have implemented two methods in sophisticated algorithms - in the CADdy PointCloudMinimizer.

Available in CADdy Geomatics-shop both as a plugin for CADdy Classic & CADdy4BricsCAD and as a stand-alone version.

The features of the CADdy PointCloudMinimizer

  • Triangulation based on the Delaunay algorithm
  • Integrated contouring
  • Thinning using highly complex scientific calculation algorithms (Decimation of Triangle Meshes, LOD minimization)
  • Method of oblique view and thinning over contour lines
  • Import of 3D point clouds of various ASCII data formats (XYZ grid, OBJ, KOR, PLY, LAS)
  • Standard thinning and parameterized thinning
  • Integrated 3D viewer
  • Resource-optimized "fast" thinning method or option of exact thinning (more compute-intensive)
  • Thinning by the number of points remaining, percentage of points or maximum local error
  • Various meshing methods for large or small point clouds
  • Helpful information about point cloud base data
  • either as a CADdy Classic plugin version with direct transfer to the CADdy DBK
  • or as a stand-alone version with additional input of control commands and output in numerous ASCII formats
