Measure and stake out with the action buttons

For some time now, WebCADdy has been offering you the option of adding or removing the action buttons in the lower middle of the map, which you can use to display the current position of your GPS device on the map. Above all, the action buttons make measuring much easier. For example, you no longer have to first display your position on the map and then record a measuring point via 'Draw point' in the toolbar - this workflow can be simplified to a single step using the corresponding action button.

(You can find a larger view of the pictures at the end of the article.)

In the company administration under the menu item 'Functions' you can determine which GPS function is available by means of action buttons in the map window. In order to keep the map window clear, especially in a mobile view (cell phone or tablet), the number of action buttons is limited to three. Simply use the checkbox to select the desired function or deselect functions that are not required at the moment and press 'Save'. If you switch back to the map view, you will only find the action buttons that have been selected. The following GPS functions are currently available:

Show GPS location: shows your current location on the map.
Classic WebCADdy measuring point: this function simplifies the measuring of a point. You can assign attributes in the object editor and then save the point.
Quick measurement of a point: Measurement of a point without an object editor.
Measure line: measure a line.
Measure area: measure a polygon.
Start measurement series: start a measurement series.
Stake out: Stake out a known object on the map.

The following is primarily intended to explain how you can simplify your measurements with the action buttons. The action buttons are blue, if the corresponding function has been activated, the respective action button is green. The function can be terminated at any time by pressing the action button again.

The 'classic' process of measuring a point (as well as measuring a line or polygon) in WebCADdy includes the steps display position and draw point (or draw line or polygon). To do this, you first had to display your position using the action button and then 'draw' an object on the map.

The action button 'measure classic WebCADdy point' simplifies this workflow: your position is also displayed, but the object editor opens automatically. You can enter all your attributes as usual and save the object.

If you also want to edit the object attributes afterwards (e.g. via the object list), you can further simplify the recording of a point with the action button 'Fast GPS - Measure'. The 'fast' in the function name in no way refers to the fact that the measurement is less accurate, but only to the further simplified workflow: You only have to assign a type and object name and press 'Acquire point'. The measurement is averaged as usual and the result is saved. In addition, you can see in the window whether you currently have a fix or not.

The action buttons also make it easier to record a line or a polygon. As above for measuring the point, the steps 'Display position' and

'Draw line/polygon' summarized.

Your position and the option to add further points, complete the line / polygon or cancel the recording are displayed here. The menu navigation is the same for polygon or line measurement.

If you want to monitor a position over a certain period of time, you can do this using the 'Measurement series' action button. Enter a type, an interval in which points should be recorded and the first name. The name is automatically incremented during the measurements. Start the series of measurements by pressing 'Ok'. You can end the series of measurements by pressing the action button again.

Staking allows you to find existing objects related to your current position. If you want to stake out objects that already exist in WebCADdy, select 'Select object in map' here, load the objects into the map via Planes/Layers in the side menu and then tap on the object to be staked out. Known coordinates in geographic ETRS89 coordinates (EPSG:4258) can also be entered and staked out directly via 'Enter coordinates'. Newly added is the improved ability to stake out a line on the map. With this function, you always see your position as the shortest distance in relation to the line to be staked (i.e. the perpendicular from you to the line). This gives you the opportunity not only to find the line, but also to follow it and see how far away you are from the line at any given time.
