Drones under 250g after January 1.1.2024st, XNUMX

It should all be known by now: From January 1.1.2024st, 4, we are actually only allowed to operate our existing drones (e.g. Phantom 3 RTK) “in the field”, in subcategory A150, i.e. XNUMXm away from people and buildings.
If you want to measure people in the vicinity with drones, you have to rely on the new Mavic 3 Enterprise, for example. This is now undergoing post-certification to C2 (look here).

But what about sub-250g drones (e.g. the Mini 3 or the brand new one mini 4 pro)?
This is what this is written about Federal Aviation Office:

(…) so-called “existing drones”, i.e. drones without a C classification according to the regulation (EU) 2019/945 that were placed on the market before January 1, 2024 can acc. Art. 20 of the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947 (DVO) can still be operated in subcategories A1 (…) of the open operating category as follows:

  • Devices with a maximum take-off mass (MTOM) of less than 250 g in subcategory A1; (…)

This means that drones under 250g can still be flown under the conditions of the A1 category. Although the Minis, for example, can even be flown without proof of A1/A3 competence, we recommend that you still carry out this simple online test. Especially for those who are new to the “drone business”, because you learn important basics to be able to fly the drones (legally) safely.
